Many homeowners realize they have roof problems after there has been a leak in their house and the issue has cause more problems. But, after recognizing your roof may have issues, do you need a new roof or a repair? Follow these tips to determine if you are in line to need a new roof installation.
Age of Roof: How old is your roof? A typical asphalt roof will last between 20-25 years. If you’re experiencing roofing issues and your roof is older than 20 years, it would be beneficial to get a new roof.
Shingles Curling & Buckling: If shingles on your home are curling or buckling then it may be a sign that you need a new roof. Check out the sides of your roof that receive the most direct sunlight as these shingles will start to curl and lose granules quicker.
Missing Shingles: Replacing a few shingles here and there isn’t a huge problem from a functional standpoint. What you do need to be aware of is that replacing shingles that are the same color is extremely hard. Shingles change colors over the years and finding a match isn’t an easy task. If replacing shingles gets out of hand and your house almost looks like a checkerboard it may be time for a new roof.
Granules in Gutter: If you don’t have a brand new roof and notice that granules are in your gutters that’s a sign that the shingles are breaking down.
Sunlight through Attic: This may be one of the easier things to notice. Go up in your attic during a sunny day and make sure you can’t see any light. If light gets in so can, rain, air and snow.
Sagging Roof: This is the most severe sign that you need a new roof ASAP. A sagging roof typically means that there is structural damage and the roof needs to be replaced.
